Title:
Introduction to the Globus Toolkit GT4
Speaker: Ms. Rachana
Ananthakrishnan, Argonne National Laboratory
Abstract:
Globus is developing fundamental technologies
needed to build Grids -- persistent environments that enable
software applications to integrate instruments, displays,
computational and information.
This tutorial is lecture-style. It provides
an overview of the basic components of Globus (core, security,
data management, execution management, information services)
from an architectural point of view. Specific use cases are
presented and discussed. We encourage questions and direction
from participants.
We will cover Grid basics - how to run a
job, how to transfer a file, how to work with Globus security,
and how to track the progress of your jobs and services.
Detailed description
Globus is developing fundamental technologies
needed to build Grids -- persistent environments that enable
software applications to integrate instruments, displays,
computational and information. This paradigm has become common
in many application communities that use distributed resources
in a coordinated manner. This is especially relevant to the
attendees who have long been on the cutting edge of this work.
Globus™s use has expanded, and this tutorial will enable
communities working in this area to find out about the latest
Globus work and walk through basic functionality.
This tutorial will contain basic introductory
material in an interactive lecture-style, consisting of an
overview of the basic components of Globus (core, security,
data management, execution management, information services)
from an architectural point of view, discussion of use cases
in the Grid, and how users and developers can contribute to
Globus. The audience for this tutorial could be quite broad,
including project management, team leaders, researchers, application
developers, and end users in the Grid space. No prior knowledge
of Globus is expected.
